Declare

(APAture 2019)

β€œFor 20 years, APAture has been a site of dialogue, collaboration, and political action between artists and community members around contemporary issues affecting the Asian and Pacific Islander community.

This year, in honor of the 20th anniversary of APAture, our theme is DECLARE. DECLARE is an acknowledgement of both the legacies of our past and the legacies we'll establish in the future. We invite you to submit work related to legacies, families (chosen, biological, or beyond), communities, decolonization, representation, futurism, agency, and more. We also welcome work across all themes.”

The Kearny Street Workshop's APAture festival in San Francisco is a vibrant celebration of Asian Pacific American (APA) arts and culture, showcasing the diverse talents of emerging APA artists from various disciplines. This annual event, held in the heart of San Francisco, serves as a platform for these artists to express their voices and share their stories with the community. With each iteration, such as APAture 2019: Declare and APAture 2017: Unravel, the festival explores different themes and narratives, inviting attendees to engage with thought-provoking artworks, performances, and installations. Through exhibitions, performances, workshops, and discussions, APAture fosters connections and dialogue within the APA community and beyond, contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of San Francisco.

As a Graphic Designer at Kearny Street Workshop in San Francisco, CA, spanning from March 2016 to December 2019, Topher played a leading role in shaping the visual identity of two APAture events: "APAture 2019: Declare" and "APAture 2017: Unravel." For the 2019 event, he developed a logo concept and designed a captivating festival brochure booklet. In 2017, Topher spearheaded the branding and identity design, collaborating closely with the committee to establish themes and produce materials for promotion. As part of a design team for APAture 2016, he contributed to digital and print projects, managing file archives and overseeing formatting tasks.
